Year Group Curriculum Overviews

Developed by a team of primary and secondary subject specialists across the partnership, the Futura objectives are carefully sequenced to ensure that each year prior learning is reinforced and increases in complexity. Each phase (KS1, LKS2 and UKS2) complete the same Futura objectives, however in progressing from one year group to the next e.g. Year 1 to Year 2, pupils gradually progress in their skills and knowledge through basic, advancing and deep. At a basic level, the pupils are increasing their key knowledge in each topic for that subject, ensuring that learning is making a change to their long-term memory. They are then able to reach sustained mastery at the ‘advancing’ stage by applying their knowledge from the basic level to routine problems. Our high expectations ensure that many pupils also progress to have a greater depth of understanding at the deep stage. The timescale for sustained mastery or greater depth is, therefore, two years of study.
